But Health & Safety is a necessity for any business, especial one that regularly welcomes members of the public into their premises. And a proactive approach to H&S could literally save your business THOUSANDS of pounds!

Because let’s face it…

Accidents happen!

But how you minimise them and what you do as a result of an accident is vital!

But first of all, let’s look at Accident prevention. Like it or not, EVERYTHING and EVERYWERE is a potential accident risk. To the public, your members, your staff and even you.

This is why Risk Assessments are so important so that you can understand any potential risk for any given environment and steps that you can take to minimise that risk.

Along with Risk Assessments, COSSH training, Health and safety, Manual handling, Food safety and many more staff training plans are highly advisable to help prevent the occurrence of these inevitable accidents.

But it should stop there! How often do you review with your staff? Refresh knowledge on the above, create a cultural environment where the prevention of Accidents is at the fore front of every employee.

Because let’s face it, if something goes wrong- the chances are one of your team have made a mistake for this to happen, so make it your job to create this health and safety culture!

So let’s say now that an accident has happened. What next?

What are your initial steps?

Well first of all- deal with any first aid needs and ALWAYS fill out a comprehensive Accident Report Form.

Assess the area – why did the accident happened – refer to your risk assessment were the risk control measures in place? Are they sufficient? Do they need reviewing?

Always follow up!

What is the nature of the accent? Is it RIDDOR reportable? Remember. What you do as a result of an accident is VITAL. Don’t get caught out twice!
